2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302

Not much around Ford counts as sacred, but the name "Boss 302" may well be. There have been Mustang Mach 1s that didnt come with V8s, Mustang Cobras that only had 120 horsepower aboard, and the company even sold a "GT350" during the 1984 model year that wasnt much more than some tape stripes. But Ford hasnt used the name Boss 302 since way back in 1970 when the original left production. And Ford hasnt built a Boss Mustang of any sort since the 1971 Boss 351. Until, that is, the all-new 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302. Built around a fortified version of the Mustang GTs new 5.0-liter DOHC 32-valve V8 that can twist and shout all the way to 7,500 rpm and knock out 440 hp, the revived Boss 302 seems a more-than-worthy successor to its namesake. The new 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 will be (by factory rating) the most powerful Mustang Ford has ever sold without forced induction. With an engine like that, the old Boss 302 is lucky to be mentioned in the same naturally aspirated breath as the new one. Racing Back in the Day The reason there was a Boss 302 back then is racing. And the reason (but surely not the only reason) theres a new Boss 302 today is racing. This time, however, Ford isnt playing catch-up. In order to compete effectively in the SCCAs Trans Am road racing series, in 1967 Chevrolet had created the Camaro Z/28 and its high-revving, short-stroke "DZ302" 302-cubic-inch (5.0-liter) small-block V8. In the hands of team owner Roger Penske and under the whip of driver Mark Donohue, the Z/28 won three of the 12 Trans Am races run during 1967. Then during 1968, in one of the most dominant professional road racing performances ever, Penske and Donohue won an incredible 10 of the 13 races, including an unfathomable eight in a row. The Boss 302 was engineered specifically as a response to the ludicrously successful Z/28 and as a way of rearming Ford teams competing in Trans Am. And the essential element of the Boss 302 car was the Boss 302 V8 engine. Combining a fortified "Windsor" block with the relatively free-breathing cylinder heads from the then-new "Cleveland" 351-cubic-inch V8 was the major trick of the Boss 302. Throw in some solid lifters for precise (and loud) activation of the oversize valves, a sewer pipe-size four-barrel carburetor and the result was a 302-cubic-inch engine underrated at 290 hp while screaming at 5,800 rpm. That engine would help make the Mustang Boss 302 competitive in the Trans Am series during 1969 and earn it a championship in 1970. Racing Today Conceptually, Fords 2012 version of the Boss 302 V8 follows a similar developmental path. Starting with the new "Coyote" DOHC 5.0-liter V8, the engineering team concentrated on improving its talents for use in the Boss 302R road race Mustang.
As with the old Boss 302 the decision was made to concentrate on high-rpm power production by optimizing engine respiration. To that end a new set of cylinder heads was developed with CNC-machined ports that allow better breathing at high rpm. More aggressive camshafts were also fitted to take advantage of the increased air flow. The valvetrain components were lightened to better survive those higher engine speeds and new sodium-filled exhaust valves dissipate heat more effectively. New forged aluminum pistons and sinter-forged steel connecting rods were also added to solidify this 302s bottom end. All thats inside the engine. The more obvious change from the outside is the adoption of a new short-runner composite intake manifold sitting in the valley between the cylinder heads. "The effect of the new intake design is dramatic," said Mike Harrison, Ford V8 program manager in a release. "When I took the prototype car to Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak, he took a short drive, tossed me the keys and said Book it...its in the program. He knew what we were onto, and thats really the point where the Boss 302 was born." Minor Changes That Make a Big Difference The new 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 engine packs a 150-hp (rated) greater wallop than the old Boss 302, but Harrison asserts, in character theyre similar beasts. "The first Boss 302 was a specially built, free-breathing, high-revving small-block V8 that gave it certain characteristics on a race course — and we capture that essence in the new engine," he said. "In keeping with the spirit of the original, the new Boss 302 achieves its maximum power output at speeds at or above 7,500 rpm. Unlike the original engine, however, low-speed torque and drivability are uncompromised thanks to twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) technology and computer-aided engineering design tools." In fact, the biggest difference between the Mustang GT engine and the Boss 302s is an increase in the red line from 7,000 to 7,500 rpm. Despite all those modifications, whats most interesting is what doesnt change. Compared to the Mustang GTs standard version of the 5.0-liter V8, the Boss 302s compression ratio is apparently unchanged at 11.0:1 (and still "estimated" according to Ford). Valve diameters stay at 37mm on the intake side and 32mm on the exhaust, and valve lift specs remain at 12mm intake and 11mm exhaust. The Boss 302 engine is more powerful, but its not a radical revision of the Mustang GT version of the same engine. Ford isnt even claiming a change from the manual-transmission-equipped Mustang GTs 17 mpg in the city/26 mpg on the highway EPA mileage ratings despite the Boss 302s standard 3.73:1 final-drive ratio. But the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 wont be for everyone. For instance, while the Mustang GTs engine is rated at 390 pound-feet of peak torque at 4,250 rpm, the Boss 302 V8 loses 10 lb-ft somewhere along the line — peaking at 380 lb-ft. While the GT can get by on 86-octane swill, the Boss 302 demands 91-octane fuel or better. And the Mustang GT is available with an automatic transmission. The Boss 302 is manual only.
The Car Around That Engine Back in 1969 and 1970 the Boss 302 came with a stiffer suspension, reinforced shock towers, larger front and rear anti-sway bars and standard front disc brakes. Those were all significant improvements back when high tech in a car still meant a "transistorized ignition." The changes to the new Boss 302 are more extensive. Aesthetically the new 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 grabs a few cues from the original, but it isnt a clone. Yeah, theres the C-stripe along the cars flanks. And the "Boss 302" lettering is familiar. But the standard rear spoiler doesnt stand above the deck lid on posts and the vertical rear window slats that destroyed rearward vision in the first car are missing from this one. Also, the front spoiler is a splitter this time instead of a deep scoop, and the flat black hood has given way to a flat black center section on the hood and flat black on the roof (variations will also be available). About the sweetest twist in the looks is the blocked-off holes for the GTs driving lights. It looks tough and racelike, even if it is a theatrical embellishment. Naturally, all Boss 302s get a heavily revised suspension. The stiffer springs result in a slightly lower ride height (11mm in front, 1mm in back) while firmer bushings and a thicker rear sway bar further stiffen the ride. Five-way-adjustable dampers are also part of the package, along with an adjustable electric steering box. The tires are summer-spec 255/40ZR19 front and 285/35ZR19 rear Pirelli P Zeros on special alloy wheels. The Brembo front disc brakes have four-piston calipers clamping down on a 14-inch disc, and the rear disc pads have a special compound. The ratios in the Getrag gearbox are shared with the GT, with 5th a direct drive and 6th an overdrive. Oddly, the Boss is 26 pounds heavier than a standard GT, according to Fords stated 3,631-pound curb weight. Inside the cockpit theres some specific trim and Recaro seats are available, but otherwise its a Mustang in there. And thats no bad thing. How Does It All Work? No one outside Ford has driven a 2012 Mustang Boss 302 yet. But its conceivable this Boss 302 will run well into the 12s through the quarter-mile and rip from zero to 60 mph in the low 4-second range. If Ford is to be believed, a full 1.0g orbit around the skid pad isnt inconceivable. But were in a time-will-tell holding pattern until were closer to the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302s on-sale date — next spring. That gives us some time to save up the $40-or-so large it will take to buy one.

The all-new 2012 SLK Roadster

Passion meets efficiency

The all-new SLK-Class, one of the most exciting and successful sports cars ever built, is entering its third generation. The 2012MY roadster takes driving pleasure and open-air enjoyment to the next level by blending nimble handling with stylish comfort, striking sports-car design, everyday drivability, top performance and exemplary efficiency. In addition, the 2012 SLK-Class is proud to present the world premiere of the panorama vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL, which switches between light and dark transparency at the touch of a button. Exemplary efficiency and athletic flair come courtesy of powerful new 4 and 6-cylinder engines With superb levels of performance, they are more fuel efficient than their predecessors and with unique new safety equipment the 2012 SLK-Class sets the new standard in this segment. With its wealth of technical innovations, the SLK is once again the benchmark in its class. The 2012 SLK-Class goes on-sale in the U.S. this summer.

"The new SLK embodies the role of the trend-setter like no other car", says Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. "I am convinced that with its passionate design, its high-quality interior and its modesty at the fuel station it will continue to provide an enormous amount of fun on the road in future, too, consolidating its status as a cult roadster."

Innovations are part of the successful history of the Mercedes-Benz SLK:

  • In 1996, the first generation caused a sensation with the vario-roof, which transformed the wide-open roadster into a fixed-roof coupe at the touch of a button in just a few seconds.
  • The second generation placed the warm AIRSCARF around the neck and shoulders of the occupants as needed, ensuring open-top enjoyment even in cooler temperatures.
  • Now the third generation presents a unique highlight - the world premiere of the panorama vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL, which can be quickly switched to light or dark transparency at the touch of a button.

The new Mercedes-Benz SLK unites premium comfort and high-quality equipment and appointments with an especially athletic flair. At the same time the new roadster is the most fuel efficient in its class matched with segment-leading safety. All-weather driving enjoyment - open or closed, during weekends or the daily commute - is firmly anchored in the SLKs genes.

Timeless aesthetics embody hallmark sports-car sensuality

The designers have tailor-made a body for the new SLK that emphasizes its classic roadster proportions and puts them in the spotlight with a thrilling result. Behind the long hood is a compact passenger compartment and a short rear overhang. The SLK will tempt potential customers with these key attributes that characterize all the classic roadsters from Mercedes-Benz.

The first eye-catching feature is an upright radiator grille that stands proud and confident in the wind and bears the new Mercedes-Benz brand look. The grille emphasizes the long and well-proportioned hood, and with its light-catching contours it already hints at the roadsters dramatic qualities. The wide radiator grille bears the Mercedes-Benz star in a prominent central position and displays a powerfully contoured chromed fin at the front. The clearly defined headlamps complete the look of the new SLKs face and resemble that of the legendary 190 SL from the 1950s, which is regarded by many as being the original "SLK". However the designers did not just focus on the past; with the new SLKs front end they also intentionally created a close visual link with the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG "gullwing model" and the new CLS.

The impressive result of this meticulously detailed work is that in spite of the more striking, steeper front and larger frontal area, the Cd value has been cut to just 0.30 - a brilliant achievement (the predecessor models Cd value was 0.32).

The timeless, classic shape of the side profile with the classic roadster proportions embodies aesthetics of the highest caliber and is a visual cue to the sportiness and driving pleasure in store. Fine details show the care that has been taken by the Mercedes-Benz designers. For example, a molding conceals the trunk joint, so that the side line cannot get in the way, as it usually does with similar roof designs. The ventilation grilles in the front fenders with a chromed fin are reminiscent of the famous Mercedes-Benz roadsters of the 1950s. In the new SLK they form the perfect starting point for a feature line, which flows to the muscular rear fender, using light and shadow to add style and timeless aesthetics to the sides. Meanwhile the upper edge of the wide headlamps - which for the first time boast all-LED technology - also appears to flow into the feature line.

Interior with style and pure good looks

Despite the most compact dimensions in its class, the 2012 SLK has generous interior dimensions. To achieve this, the designers have developed interior appointments that offer the driver and passenger the highest degree of quality and pure precision. The interior is characterized by stylish sportiness and genuine high-quality materials which have been processed with perfect precision and skilled craftsmanship. Standard brushed aluminum trim covers the center console; wood trim can be ordered as an option in high-gloss dark brown walnut. Four round, metallic air outlets integrated in the dashboard emphasize that this model truly belongs to the Mercedes-Benz sports car family, their shape being a nod to those in the SLS.

The SLKs generous round dials are astride a display for the onboard computer. The color display for the communications and entertainment functions is housed in the center of the dashboard, and is easily read by both the driver and passenger.

Other high-quality pieces of equipment include a multifunction sports steering wheel with a flattened bottom section and a thick leather crown, plus available sun-reflecting leather that noticeably reduces seat temperature, ambient lighting

Unique equipment: MAGIC SKY CONTROL

For the first time Mercedes-Benz is offering a choice of three variants of the lightweight-construction vario-roof for the new SLK: in just a few seconds this feature transforms the roadster into a coupe with a "fixed" roof at the touch of a button - and vice versa:

  • The standard version is a roof painted in the vehicle color.
  • Optionally available is a panorama vario-roof with dark-tinted glass.
  • The third option is a world premiere - the panorama vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL. This glass roof switches to light or dark at the press of a button. In light mode it is virtually transparent, offering an open-air experience even in cold weather. In its dark state the roof provides welcome shade and prevents the interior from heating up from

the suns rays. In other words: a comfortable atmosphere at the touch of a button.

Innovative AIRGUIDE wind-stop system

A comfortable alternative to the conventional wind-stop is a new pivoting wind-stop for the 2012 SLK, invented by Mercedes-Benz aerodynamics engineers. It consists of pivoting transparent plastic layers attached to the back of the roll bars. The driver or passenger can swing them to the center of the vehicle in an instant, thus taming turbulent air flow.

Spirit and efficiency

There will be two models of the 2012 SLK available in its first year, both powered by direct-injection engines. The completely redesigned V6 engine in the SLK350 develops 302 hp from its 3498 cubic-centimeter displacement, using this power to accelerate in 5.4 (est.) seconds from 0 to 60 mph (top speed 155 mph). Its fuel Later on in the model year, the SLK250 goes on-sale with a four-cylinder engine developing 201 hp from a displacement of 1796 cubic centimeters.

The SLK250 is equipped as standard with a 6-speed manual transmission and consumes an estimated 27 mpg (combined). From a standstill it reaches 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, and it has a top speed of 155 mph.

Suspension for the closest relationship with the road

A sports suspension with firmer springs and dampers ensures a sporty driving experience. Additionally the Direct-Steer system offers more handling and agility while also reducing the amount of physical effort required when parking.

During spirited driving, the Torque Vectoring Brakes produce a defined rotational movement about the vertical axis of the vehicle in fractions of a second through selective brake actuation at the rear inside wheel. This results in the SLK stabilizing without any compromises, and it steers into a bend precisely and under full control.

Clever use of materials and high levels of safety

The new SLKs bodyshell has been further refined, with the hood and fenders now made of aluminum.

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK also sets new benchmarks in terms of safety. The third generation of this icon will make use of a whole host of the latest assistance systems to support the driver, including the drowsiness detection system ATTENTION ASSIST, developed by Mercedes-Benz and fitted as standard equipment. Available through special order is DISTRONIC PLUS with PRE-SAFE¨ Brake, which can autonomously apply the brakes in the event of an impending safety requirements.

Those wishing to do so can extend the host of assistance systems in the new SLK even further:

  • The Intelligent Light System provides five lighting functions (cornering light function, country mode, motorway mode, active light function and enhanced fog lamps), which are activated depending on the driving conditions
  • The Speed Limit Assist is able to detect speed limit signs using a camera on the inside of the windscreen and indicate the respective detected speed limit on a display in the instrument cluster

The new SLK can be ordered from 17 January 2011. The prices including VAT are as follows:

SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY: 38,675 euros,
SLK 250 BlueEFFICIENCY: 44,256.10 euros,
SLK 350 BlueEFFICIENCY: 52,300.50 euros.

To mark the launch of the new SLK, Mercedes-Benz is offering an "Edition 1" special model with the special paint finish SHAPE in glacier grey. The "Edition 1" is opulently appointed and its standard specification includes the panoramic vario-roof, the Dynamic Handling package, AMG bodystyling, two-tone designo nappa leather with contrasting topstitching, AIRSCARF, ambient lighting and more. The additional charges range from 8490 to 8990 euros, depending on the base model.

The 2012 SLK-Class makes its U.S. showroom debut in summer 2011.

2012 BMW 1 Series Sport Line

The drive-train layout, with a rise in line front engine and rear-wheel drive, unique in the compact segment. This improves the handling of the new BMW 1 series, and is also reflected in his style, with its typical BMW proportions: a long hood, wide stance and a cell passenger behind. The new BMW 1 Series is the epitome of elegance and innovative response in a compact car with a young, dynamic design and high quality features add to the excitement.

Compared to its predecessor, the new BMW 1 Series is a car that is growing, and this is reflected in its diameter increases. Now is 8.5 cents and 1.7 cents for larger. However, the height remains unchanged, and the result is an elegant, elongated profile. Front and rear, strong position, this close immediately all eyes.
Front looks striking with bold curves.

Front of the car is dominated by a large BMW kidney-shaped grille, headlights and boldly shaped three-piece air intake. The grid is bent forward, the emphasis given to this position, challenging the more sporty and compact models, while the areas surrounding the light and create a strong sense of three dimensions, where there are four contour lines forming the hood is a V , which is directed towards the grid.

2011 Detroit Auto Show 2012 Toyota Prius V【Video】

Toyota has unveiled the Toyota Prius V minivan at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The similarities between the regular 5-door version and the 2012 Toyota Prius V are not only in terms of design, as both cars share the same platform, while the new hybrid minivan promises a 50 percent more space inside its cabin.

Exterior cues include an extended roof line and a roof spoiler to improve air flow. Toyota calls the Prius V "the most spacious dedicated hybrid on the market." It will include an optional panoramic moonroof with power-retractable sunshades.

It uses the same 1.8-liter engine and Hybrid Synergy Drive system, and in comparison to the hatchbacks EPA ratings of 51 mpg city, 48 mpg highway (50 mpg combined), the Prius V is rated at 42 mpg city, 38 mpg highway, for a combined rating of 40 mpg.

Making the most of that larger cabin are sliding second-row seats and a fold-flat front passenger seat, plus a standard back-up camera. The Prius V also marks the debut of the companys Entune multimedia system that was introduced at last weeks Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

It will share the current generation Prius’ platform and Hybrid Synergy Drive technology. Featuring a compact exterior yet spacious interior, the Priusv will feature over 50-percent more interior cargo space than the current Prius.

With a balance between outstanding spaciousness, refined style, and smooth aerodynamics, Priusv has a low 0.29 coefficient of drag, which does not inhibit the vehicle’s convenient packaging. It is a new vehicle designed from the ground up, with a shape that evolved from Prius rather than being an elongated version.

The exterior styling is sleek, rounded and bold, with an extended roofline that allows the vehicle to retain the triangular silhouette symbolic of Prius. The trapezoidal-shaped front features sharp-edged headlamps, wind-slipping aero corners for improved aerodynamics and an enlarged under grille, which all help create a unique design evolving from the current Prius. Priusv’s rear styling is highlighted by a refined backdoor panel, intricate combination taillights and a specially designed roof spoiler that improves air flow.

Inside, the Priusv emphasizes overall proportion with spaciousness and flexibility for active families. Comfortable interior space and good visibility has been assisted by a high seating position, ample head room, and an impressive 38-inch couple distance, providing generous rear legroom. A low, wide-opening rear hatch reveals 34.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, making it the most spacious dedicated hybrid vehicle on the market and better than some compact SUVs.

Comfortable seating for five is specifically designed for young families. Sliding second row seats allow for easier ingress and egress and rear-storage flexibility, with a 45-degree recline for greater comfort. The 60/40 split, folding rear seats present four different seat arrangements that provide excellent usability for passengers and luggage, while a fold-flat front-passenger seat allows for extremely long cargo.

Also available, and a Toyota-first, is a resin Panoramic View moonroof with power retractable sun shades that provides an open atmosphere in the cabin with a 40-percent reduction in weight as compared to conventional glass roofs of the same size, and excellent heat insulation performance.

Up front, instrument-panel controls, including a single-dial air-conditioning control and a center-mounted digital combination meter, provide an advanced look and user-friendly command. The driving controls – including the Push Button Start, parking switch, electronic shift lever, and driving mode selection – are distinguished by silver trim.

Despite the spaciousness of a family friendly midsize vehicle, the Priusv will deliver estimated EPA fuel economy ratings of 42 mpg city, 38 mpg highway and 40 mpg combined, the best fuel economy ratings of any SUV, crossover, or wagon on the market. It will also emit 66-percent fewer smog-forming emissions than the average new vehicle.

Like the current generation Prius, the Priusv is a showcase of technology that will include many of the same standard features. Four driving modes (Normal, Power, Eco and EV) satisfy a variety of road conditions and driver preferences. A Smart Key System with Push Button Start, an electronic shift lever, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), and a back-up camera are standard. Available options include energy-efficient LED headlamps, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with a Pre-Collision System (PCS), and Advanced Parking Guidance System.

For a high level of safety, there are seven airbags, a high-strength cabin and an energy-absorbing body structure with impact beams, cross members and leg absorption pads. New driver and front-passenger seat design helps lessen possible whiplash injury during a collision.

Like all Toyota models, the Priusv will feature Toyota’s Star Safety System™ standard, which includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. It also features the standard Smart Stop Technology brake-override system.

Priusv will be one of the first Toyotas with the Entune™ multimedia system. For the first time ever in an automobile, this innovative new system leverages the mobile phone to provide a richer in-vehicle experience with fully integrated and wireless upgradeable navigation, entertainment and information services.

Toyota Entune debuts the first-ever support for engaging mobile apps, such as Bing, OpenTable, and movietickets.com, along with accessing useful travel-related services, such as live weather, traffic, fuel information (location and price), stocks, news and sports.

Toyota Entune brings the largest selection of music options available to a vehicle, including iheartradio’s 750+ stations, Pandora’s personalized music, the driver’s personal songs from portable media players and iPods (via USB or Bluetooth audio streaming), and more than 170 stations from XM satellite radio.

Featuring a best-in-class, advanced conversational voice recognition system that helps the driver to stay focused on the road, Toyota Entune eliminates the need to memorize thousands of voice commands and helps reduce driver distraction.

Entune will also allow for audio read-back and replay capabilities for text messages, with the ability to respond by pre-set “Quick Reply Messages.”

Priusv will combine Entune with a standard Display Audio system rich with dynamic entertainment and communication features. The system will include HD Radio with iTunes tagging for future purchase; XM radio, weather, sports, stocks and local fuel pricing; Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless audio; and full iPod integration including music and video.

A new evolution in hybrid vehicles with excellent cargo space and Prius’ heritage of environmental performance and fuel economy, the 2012 Priusv will go on sale in late summer 2011.

Priusc Concept: Small “city”-centric Hybrid Vehicle

While the current Prius has ushered hybrid technology into the mainstream, and the Priusv will provide the additional room and versatility for active families, compact shoppers are interested in a smaller hybrid at an entry price point and with superior fuel economy. The Priusc Concept, with c representing a “city”-centric vehicle, will appeal to young singles and couples who want an eco-sensitive, high-mileage, fun-to-drive Prius.

This dynamic vehicle with urban appeal will pursue outstanding fuel efficiency in a compact package, while also providing a surprisingly spacious interior. It will include many advanced technology features, including some offered on the current Prius.

Priusc Concept is the inspiration for an additional Prius family member that will come to market in the first half of 2012 as the most value-oriented hybrid in the U.S. market with the highest mileage of any “cordless” hybrid.

Prius Plug-In Vehicle: the Best of Both Worlds

Since its initial launch 10 years ago, one of the Prius’ main efficiencies has been a hybrid system with its own on-board recharging system that never needed to be plugged in to take people where they wanted to go. With the addition of new technology and shifts in the market, the Prius Plug-in Hybrid is the family member that represents the best of both worlds – the superior fuel economy of the Prius with added EV driving capability.

Depending on driving conditions, Prius Plug-in can be driven approximately 13 miles on battery power at speeds up to 60 mph. Its compact Lithium-ion battery provides less weight and a quicker recharging time, taking three hours on 110 volts and 1.7 hours on 220 volts. It can be “topped off” anytime with a convenient short charge.

After the EV power is depleted, the Plug-in performs like an economical third-generation Prius, the most fuel efficient midsize hybrid vehicle in America. Unlike pure EVs, it will be a seamless transition for consumers, with the only difference from a regular Prius is that it can be plugged in at convenient intervals.

Currently, ore than 150 Lithium-ion-battery powered Prius Plug-ins are part of a demonstration program in several U.S. cities. The program’s goal is to demonstrate plug-in technology, educate and inform the public, evaluate performance, and better understand the benefits to future customers. This will help pave the way for an on-sale target in the first half of 2012.

The Plug-in will be initially offered in 14 West and East Coast states (Arizona, California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, Virginia and New Hampshire) where nearly 60 percent of all Prius models are currently sold.Availability in all remaining states will be a year later.

When it comes to market, the Prius Plug-in will represent the most eco-sensitive and advanced choice within the Prius brand of products.
